Coach and young person

Volunteers are the backbone of Aston Sports Club. We can provide training and opportunities to reward those who give their time to ensure sport in the Aston community can flourish.

Why Volunteer? (in no particular order)

- Learn New Skills
- Meet New People
- Gain Qualifications and Experience
- Routes into paid work
- Feel part of a new and successful sports club
- Contribute to your community
- Have FUN

What sort of things might I do as a volunteer?
Some ASC Coaches
+ Coach Sport - Any sport
+ Run a team
+ Help us with registrations and administration
+ Make Telephone Calls
+ Help with sponsorship and marketing
+ Organise Tournaments and Events
+ Help us gain awards or find funding

What Next?

The best thing to do is to come along to one of our sessions and speak to one of the coaches, they will help you if they can.  You can definately look out for AB our Volunteer Coordinator, he is always around.

If you prefer, you can email AB - here - you should try to include the following information: What sports you are interested in; what role you are interested in; why you want to get involved; what kind of age group you are interested in working with; your mobile number; any qualifications you have; and what days and times you have available to assist.

What kind of skills do I need?

As the role is not paid, the skills you need are more flexible, in fact it is ideal if you have no real experience, but just a simple desire to get involved.  We do require that volunteers:

* Respect the Ethos of ASC
* Keep to our equal opportunities statement
* Are committed
* Reliable and
* Work well with the other volunteers and staff

Why don't I get paid?

Very few sports clubs in the UK can afford to pay coaches and staff.  90% of coaches who work with amateur sport in the UK are volunteers, and Aston is no different. All over Britain people give their time to contribute to their community, Aston is the same.  If you are a talented and committed volunteer, when there is paid work available we will try to reward our volunteers with the work if possible.

PLEASE NOTE that as most of the work volunteers undertake is wtih children and young people, volunteers will need to undergo a CRB check - to find out what a CRB check is, click here.
